Register of electors

There are 2 versions of the electoral register - the full register and the open register.

The full register

Everyone who is registered to vote has their name and address included on the full version of the electoral register. The full version of the register is only used for:

  • elections
  • preventing and detecting crime
  • checking applications for loans or credit

The open register

The open register (previously known as the edited register) is a list of names and addresses which we must sell to anyone on request. You can choose to opt out of this register.

Opting out of the open register

To opt out of the open register, email elections@chorley.gov.uk or telephone the elections team on 01257 515132. Opting out does not affect your right to vote.

The GOV.UK legislation website has further information on the 2 types of registers.
