23 December 2020 - Local residents choose name for new development

Residents of Chorley East have been given the opportunity to choose the name of the new development on Eaves Lane.

Chorley Council who are delivering the development at the site of the former Stagecoach bus depot have been in touch with local residents and primary schools asking them to vote for their favourite from a short list of names.

The council can reveal that the development will be called Tatton Gardens.

Councillor Alistair Bradley, Leader of Chorley Council said "It's important that the name has links to the local area and it's fantastic to get the local community involved in the project, as it will be these residents who get the most use and benefit from the fantastic facilities that the development will bring.

"We're keen to engage with local residents and nearby schools throughout the construction of this development and our appointed contractors are keen to help support with this too."

This extensive development is to be part funded by the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership Getting Building Fund (a Lancashire-wide initiative), Homes England and Chorley Council.

It will consist of 62 assisted living apartments, new GP surgery and pharmacy, community café, new community centre including children's nursery, new building to complement the existing bowling green.

The Tatton recreation ground to the rear of the site will also undergo an extensive transformation to create play equipment for a range of ages and facilities for the whole community.

Steve Fogg, Chair of the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership said, ''The Covid-19 crisis has demonstrated the need to ensure we invest in those activities and projects which have a positive impact people's wellbeing and this scheme certainly contributes to this important agenda, which is why it was able to successfully secure funding from our Getting Building Fund allocation.  Inviting local residents to name the project is a brilliant way to engage with those who will benefit and ensure the project becomes a valuable asset for the local community.''


Robertson, one of the largest family-owned construction businesses in the UK has been awarded the £13m construction contract.

Dirk Pittway, regional managing director, Robertson Construction North West, said "We are delighted to be working with Chorley Council as the main contractor to deliver this fantastic project, which we know will bring huge benefits to the residents of the area.

"We have a strong North West presence and wherever possible we'll be working with local supply chain partners, to help support the local economy.

"Tatton Gardens will play an integral role in the community and we are committed to enhancing the areas where we work, not only by delivering quality projects but by having a positive impact on the communities we serve.  Discussions are ongoing with the council with regard to recruitment in the local area and we intend to deliver workshops as well as lending our support to some community initiatives."

Construction work is expected to start in February 2021 following the demolition and clean up of the site by specialist contractors currently taking place and will take around 1 year to complete.

Getting Building Fund

On 4 August 2020, the government confirmed the list of over 300 successful projects which will receive a share of £900 million from the Getting Building Fund.

The Getting Building Fund is investing in shovel-ready infrastructure projects to create jobs and support economic recovery across the country.  Projects funded include:

  • regeneration of town and city centres
  • green infrastructure and clean energy
  • transport and digital connectivity improvements
  • unlocking of housing and business sites
  • support for SMEs and learners

The successful projects (over 300) are expected to deliver up to 85,000 jobs, over 1,500,000 sqm of commercial floor space, unlocking 45,000 homes, almost 1,000,000 sqm of public realm or green space improved or created, over 50,000 new learners assisted, and 65 million kgs of CO2 emissions saved.

All projects have been selected by Local Enterprise Partnerships and Mayoral Combined Authorities in each area and endorsed by the Housing Secretary.

Lancashire received an allocation of £34.1m for 10 projects which will create jobs and invest in much needed infrastructure improvements, helping the county recover and bounce back quicker from the pandemic.

All of the successful ten schemes have demonstrated they have the ability to accelerate growth and create employment, and are a good mix of projects which will have an impact across the whole of the county.  The schemes range from regeneration projects in some of Lancashire's towns which have been adversely impacted by Covid-19, to high-end research and development facilities which will contribute to the Government's clean growth agenda.

  • Low Carbon Manufacturing Building Demonstrator (AMRC), South Ribble and Ribble Valley (£2.5m)

  • Hillhouse Enterprise Zone, Wyre (£0.5m)
  • M55 Link Road, Fylde (£5.79m)
